Lee Da-young tells the story behind the French league bolero contract and her daily life after returning to Korea

Lee Da-young’s new team, which will be in its third year in the European League, has been decided.
Bolero Le Caneda of the French women’s first division (League A). At the end of May, Da-Young Da-young signed her contract at home. Bolero officially announced her joining on 10 June.

Lee Da-young, who returned home on April 20 after missing her entire season at Rapid Bucharest in the Romanian League due to her back injury, rejected Rapid’s request for a new contract and has been looking for a new team for her. In the meantime, she has been negotiating a good offer from a prestigious team in the Polish league, but the final signing has not been made. In the midst of this, she sent an offer to the lower-ranking teams of the Turkiye League, and two years ago, the Greek league PAOK, where she had good memories with Lee Da-young, also made an offer with good conditions. Lee Da-young, who was thinking about various teams, chose a challenge that would allow her to step on the stage of the Champions League finals in her new league.

Lee Da-young said, “The renewal of the contract was later than expected. Last year, the contract was concluded too early, so I missed the contracts that came later from better conditions such as Italy and the Turkiye League. This time, he waited not to have such regrets, and finally a good opportunity came. I think he was good at waiting patiently,” he said, delighting in signing with Bolero.

He said, “I was about to sign a two-year contract at Chemic Police in the Polish league, but the manager who wanted me was suddenly replaced. As a successor, new manager Marco Fenolio, who led the team during the season at PAOK, came. Coach Marco said he wanted to use three foreign strikers instead of a foreign setter. So the trip to Poland was canceled, but another opportunity came. Thanks to the hard work of my agent, my dream of playing in the Champions Leagu

Bolero is based in Le Canet, Provence, southern France. It is also close to Cannes, where the famous film festival is held, and the resort town of Nice. He has participated in the French league since 2018, but won the league title 13 times in the Swiss league under the name of Bolero. The prestigious Swiss league team moved its activities to France in 2018 when it merged with Le Canet of the French league. This choice was rewarded with the first French League A championship in the 2021-2022 season. In the 2022-2023 season, Bolero also won the championship after advancing to the playoffs with 16 wins and 10 losses, 49 points and 6th place. They advanced to the final by winning 2-1 against Nantes in the quarterfinals and 2-1 against Venell in the semifinals. In the championship match, they defeated Mulhouse, who ranked first in the regular league, with two consecutive victories and won the championship for the second year in a row.

Thanks to the victory in the 2021-2022 season, Bolero also participated in the European Champions League in the 2022-2023 season.
After passing the group stage as second place in Group B, they faced Jeszow of the Polish League in the round of 16. After recording 1 win and 1 loss for Bolero, they lost 13-15 in the golden set and failed to advance to the quarterfinals. Lee Da-young has been able to step on the stage of the Champions League finals that he dreamed of as a member of Bolero for the third year in the European League.

He said, “I often watched the Champions League video because fans sent it via cell phone or link. He didn’t know it in his first season in Greece, but playing in the Romanian league gave him a sense of what the Champions League was like and he had always dreamed of playing there. The dream came true after 3 seasons, but it is still far away. This is the start. Now that I have entered the European stage, I want to be active for a long time and leave many records.”

Lee Da-young said, “In the first year of joining Greece, he had no thoughts. He was grateful to be able to play volleyball and just thought of trying hard so as not to miss the opportunity. This year, after playing in the Romanian League, I became greedy to play on a bigger stage. The Champions League is not an easy place for anyone to get to. I have been dreaming of one day playing there as a starting setter for an advancing team. It’s not important to just dream. We have to make that dream a reality.”

After advancing to the European leagues, Lee Da-young is gradually improving her skills by rising to higher leagues. The French league ranks fifth in the European league rankings after Turkey, Italy, Russia, and Poland. There are two of the 18 Champions League qualifiers. Bolero was active in recruiting Lee Da-young, the club’s president and general manager. They wanted a setter who would make use of the ability of the team’s main gun Victoria baseman (Russia). I expect a quick back pass to be of great help. The coach is Danilo Pezovic (Serbia), who has been in charge since last season.

He said, “I still don’t know why Bolero wants me. He only thinks that he was chosen because the team needed him. First of all, since I became a member of Bollore, I want to become a necessary player when the team is important. When the team is in crisis, I want to hear ‘Da-Young Lee saved our team’. In Romania, I heard a lot of talk about ‘Lea Da-young (Lee Da-young’s registered name as a player in Romania)’. Maybe that’s why I heard that Rapido wants to renew the contract.”

Bolero is a prestigious team that is on a different level from the previous teams. Helen Russo, familiar to V-League fans, played an active part in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons as a member of Bolero Zurich. Anna Lazavera also played for Bolero Le Canet in 2019-2020, the season before coming to IBK Industrial Bank. In addition, there are many ties with players who have entered the V-League, such as Sheridan Atkinson (2021-2022 season) and Nia Reed (2020-2021 season). Melissa Vargas, who recently joined the Turkish national team, also played for Zurich for the 2017-2018 season.

Bolero has already signed four Russian players, as well as players from Lithuania and Bulgaria. There is also Apogee Banja Savic, a Serbian nationality, of which the V-League teams were very interested. Savich was unable to participate in this tryout due to participating in the French league championship match. Setter Victoria Kovza is a promising Russian national who won the best setter award at the 2018 U-18 World Championships. He was born in 2004 and is 183 cm tall. Lee Da-young is the opponent who should compete for the starting position.

The club provides an apartment with a view of the beach and a vehicle for Lee Da-young. It seems that he will live in a much more comfortable environment than in the Romanian league in terms of stadium facilities and player management. He said, “I heard that I was playing in the best environment. To be honest, I haven’t heard specific terms from the club yet, but when rumors spread that I was going to be a bolero, many fans sent me messages on social media saying, ‘It’s a team I know, and I’m happy and happy to play in the best environment.’

Dayoung Lee returned to Korea on April 20th and has been taking a break. After getting his body in shape, he is focusing on his rehabilitation and training ahead of the new season. He said, “After coming to Korea, I took a break for a while and focused on back treatment. He recovered his body with acupuncture and physical therapy. He later took a short trip to Danang, Vietnam with his friends. He took just one month off and started his full-scale training on May 20th스포츠토토. It is now in the stage of rehabilitation and basic physical training. He is preparing for the season earlier than in other years by training with weights. He needs to prepare for the season quickly so that he can show a better image. The date of his departure has not yet been confirmed as he has not yet received a call from Bolero asking when he will enter the country. Until then, I plan to train in Korea. Starting in July, he intends to start training in touching the ball. I also plan to meet with reporters and talk directly before his departure.”

We asked Lee Da-young, who is about to start her third season in the European League, what has changed since going overseas.

He said, “During the first year of PAOK, I was just busy playing volleyball. He had no experience of playing volleyball abroad. In his second year, he thought a lot and watched and studied a lot of game videos. The play has also changed a lot. The biggest change is being able to overplay with multiple strikers. calmed down again I heard that often in Romania. Technically, the use of back attacks, especially pipe attacks, has increased. Back in Greece, I didn’t know the importance of a back attack. In fact, it was harder in Romania than in Greece. However, you cannot always play volleyball in a good environment on all teams. Even that difficult life was a great study for me because there was something to learn technically and mentally.”

Ahead of the trip to Bolero, he has a new homework assignment. it’s driving
“I am still not good at driving. In Romania, I was not good at driving, so I took a taxi instead of the car the club gave me. But in the new team, I think I will have to drive. Since the team’s home is a resort, the roads are wide and the accommodation and the stadium are far away, so the cost of a taxi seems to be prohibitive. So, while in Korea, you must receive driving training.”
